Job Description

Individual is responsible in controlling and monitoring the NDT Process for which they are certified.

Job Responsibilities

  • Requirements: Per NAS 410, Level III personnel certified to this standard shall be recertified at intervals not to exceed five years. Recertification shall be accomplished in accordance with Annex A or by successful completion of specific and practical examinations equivalent to initial certification.
  • Awareness/Understanding of NAS 410
  • Awareness/Understanding of NDT Qualification and Certification Process: Codes, specifications, Standards used by the employer, Materials, Components, Product Technologies, NDT Methods, NDT Techniques used by employer.
  • Capable of assuming technical responsibility for the NDT facility and staff, Selecting the method and technique for a specific inspection, Preparing and verifying the adequacy of procedures and work instructions, approving NDT procedures and work instructions for technical adequacy.
  • General Knowledge of other NDT methods and product manufacturing and inspection technologies used by the employer.
  • Capable of Providing or directing training, examination and certification of personnel.
  • Auditing outside agencies to ensure the requirements of the written practices are met.
  • Understanding of Corrective Actions and able to answer them in a correct fashion.

Minimum Requirements for First Level III in an Emerging NDT Method:

No engineering or study at a technical school, college or university.

80 Hours

300 Hours

At least one previous Level III or two Level II certifications held.

Two years of engineering or science study at a technical school, college or university.

60 Hours

200 Hours

At least one previous Level III or two Level II certifications held.

3-4 Year science or engineering undergraduate degree

40 Hours

200 Hours

At least one previous Level II certification held.

 

The candidate shall demonstrate proficiency by preparing an NDT procedure or work instruction appropriate to the employer’s current requirements for the method. [See NAS410]
